The Excavator Operator plays a critical role in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries by expertly operating heavy excavation machinery to move earth, minerals, and other materials safely and efficiently. This position requires precision and attention to detail to ensure that excavation tasks are completed according to project specifications and safety standards. The operator will collaborate closely with site supervisors and other team members to support the overall progress of extraction and construction activities.
Maintaining equipment in optimal working condition and performing routine inspections are essential to minimize downtime and ensure operational safety. Ultimately, the Excavator Operator contributes significantly to the successful and timely completion of projects while adhering to environmental and regulatory guidelines within the United States mining and extraction sectors.
- Valid operator certification or license for heavy excavation equipment as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating excavators in mining, quarrying, or oil and gas extraction environments.
- Strong understanding of safety standards and regulations relevant to excavation and heavy machinery operation.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and technical instructions.
- Physical capability to perform demanding tasks in outdoor and variable weather conditions.
- Must have extensive experience operating hydraulic hammers (hydraulic breakers).
- Experience feeding crushers and working safely around heavy equipment is preferred.
- Must be able to work efficiently in a hard rock (granite) environment.
- Experience with multiple types of excavation equipment including hydraulic excavators and backhoes.
- Completion of additional safety training such as OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification.
- Prior experience working in large-scale mining or oil and gas extraction projects.
- Basic mechanical skills for minor equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
- Operate excavators and related heavy machinery to dig, move, and load materials such as soil, rock, and minerals according to project plans.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks to ensure equipment safety and functionality.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe working environment for self and team members.
- Coordinate with site supervisors and other operators to optimize workflow and address any operational challenges promptly.
- Document work activities, equipment usage, and any incidents or maintenance needs accurately and timely.
The Excavator Operator utilizes technical skills daily to maneuver heavy machinery with precision, ensuring excavation tasks meet project specifications and safety standards. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and supervisors to maintain efficient workflow and address any operational issues.
