Job Summary

This position is a working supervisory position which requires the crew leader to have extensive knowledge of the water distribution system. The position will supervise and assist the crew to install water meters, hydrant meters, read meters as well as respond to leaks and operate valves and other appurtenances within the system including hydrants and any associated maintenance of hydrants. In addition, this position will conduct 811 locates and will report to supervisor on areas worked and status of job or project.

This position is on a mandatory rotating on call list. This Position will perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/department head as needed.

Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or G.E.D is required
  • TCEQ Class C distribution license or ability to obtain within (2) years from the date of hire.
  • Minimum of two year’s experience with all aspects of distribution system operation and maintenance
Essential Job Functions
  • Install, maintain, repair, water distribution infrastructures.
  • Must be on call as assigned on nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work at night or during inclement weather and especially during emergency situations.
  • Install water meters of various sizes, read meters
  • Conducts 811 locates and emphasizes the importance of marking all lines to each crew member
  • Maintenance of fire hydrants and flushing of hydrants to maintain water quality
  • Proactive in leak detection, as well as looking for unauthorized or illegal connections to the system
  • Communicates with other workers in performing routine operations and maintenance.
  • Reports to Utility Foreman and advises supervisor of job or project status.
  • Interprets City policy and procedures as related to assigned job
  • Perform all duties of the job with special attention to safety and proper procedure related to the job position
  • Supervise as well as assist crew members
Physical Requirements
  • Some tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) items
Environmental Requirements
  • Some tasks require exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g. dirt, cold, rain, fumes)
  • Some tasks require exposure to extreme weather conditions
  • Some tasks require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke
  • Some tasks require exposure to strong and/or toxic chemicals
  • Some tasks require exposure to dust or pollen
