Job Summary

Install and maintain self‑contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises.

• Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
• Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters.
• Test single‑phase, network, and polyphase self‑contained meter for proper operation and accuracy.
• Program meters.
• Perform credit and collections related order including disconnect and reconnect for non‑payment.
• Investigate irregular usage and energy diversion.
• Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
• Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment.
• Investigate self‑contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
• Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.

• Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
• Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands‑on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
• Experience in roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or comparable military or industrial technical training.
• Required states:
  State Driver License.
• Must possess and maintain a medical certification card if required by law.

• Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company’s training and qualification program, including classroom instruction, written examination, job mentoring, and job performance demonstrations.
• Work overtime, extended daily shifts, weekends, and late shifts as needed.
• Work independently under semi‑direct supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
• Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
• Effectively communicate with employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
• Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the public.
• Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
• Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
• Additional expectations may include specific work experience, licenses, pre‑employment testing, travel, and shift work.

M – Medium. Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
