A Public Works employee is responsible for: reading residential and commercial water meters and recording water consumption; identifying water meter equipment problems and performing water meter maintenance; providing general labor and assisting with routine preventative maintenance and repairs on city water and wastewater facilities and equipment; performing a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operating a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of city streets and street drainage projects.

Received

Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Crew Leader.

Requirements
  • Must possess the ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess the ability to work under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Must possess the ability to work weekends and nights as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain good working relations with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability to operate and maintain a variety of power and manual tools and equipment.
  • Must possess the ability to be trained in the materials, methods, techniques, and terminology used in maintenance and repair activities related to the city's water/wastewater system, including how repair parts are applied to the water system including hydrants, pumps and valves.
  • Must have knowledge of basic mathematical skills including percentages, fractions, decimals, and ratios.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations.
Experience And Education

Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.

License And Certificates

Must have a valid Texas Drivers' License to operate all City equipment. TCEQ Water/Wastewater License Class D (minimum) preferred and/or ability to obtain within 1 year required.
