Position Information
TxDOT's Fleet Operations Division is seeking up to three Equipment Mechanics I, II or III based in Austin, TX. This position supports TxDOT's mission by maintaining and repairing a wide range of wheeled vehicles, including passenger vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and construction equipment. Fleet mechanics play a critical role in keeping Texas moving. We support daily operations and respond to emergency and inclement weather events that impact communities across the state.
This position is open to both experienced mechanics and those looking to develop their skills in a structured, supportive environment.

This position is for one Equipment Mechanic I, II, or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
