Performs entry-level transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor. Essential Duties:
District Sign Tech I Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions. Issues signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; uses tools and equipment and moves signs and related materials. Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties. Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck. Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. District Sign Tech II (additional responsibilities) Orders supplies and materials from district shop Orders signs from the regional sign shop. Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
District Sign Tech III (additional responsibilities) May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures. Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions. Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retro reflective pavement markers (RPMs), Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.

Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
