Job SummaryAssist journeyman in the planning, lay-out, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities- Assist journeyman in the planning, lay-out, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
- Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools to assist electrician in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes for wiring, pulling wiring through openings, and assisting in lifting, positioning and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit and motors.
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs and switches.
- Maintain tools and equipment, keep supplies and parts in order; disassemble, repair and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors.
- Load, transport, unload and furnish electrician with materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
- Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
- Help install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications; perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft worker.
- Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested; engage with work team to achieve zero injuries.
- Watch for hazards and report concerns to supervisor or safety professional; use stop work authority if needed.
- Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor and participate in investigation process as needed.
- Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective actions.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices; support and follow lockout/tag out procedures.
- Attend site specific training and assure follow all procedures as outlined in training.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
- Listen to co-workers’ suggestions, safety concerns and recommendations; give full attention to what they are saying and ask questions and provide feedback when appropriate.
- Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
- Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
- Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including one line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P and 's and loop diagrams; visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
- Assist journeyman in planning, lay-out, diagram, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment in accordance with plans and specifications and learn to perform layout independently.
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed.
- Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures; take corrective actions as needed and report issues to supervision.
- If certified to operate equipment, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order and daily equipment inspections are completed for equipment being utilized.
- Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program
Minimum QualificationsAt least 1 year of experience working as an electrician or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training, and a working knowledge of the electrical craft. Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation or maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment and fixtures; testing electrical systems with appropriate tools; must be familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
If applicable must have all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction in which the work is to be performed. Ability to understand and follow directions. In addition, must have all necessary tools (see Electrician helper tool list). Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
