The City of Luling is accepting applications for a Wastewater Utility Worker.

The City of Luling is seeking a dependable and motivated Wastewater Utility Worker to join our Public Works team. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution system.

The Wastewater Utility Worker plays an important role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of potable water to our customers by maintaining water lines, meters, valves, fire hydrants, and other water system components. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, working with their hands, and being part of a team that serves the community.

• Install, repair, and maintain water mains, service lines, valves, water meters, and fire hydrants.
• Locate and mark water lines prior to excavation or construction activities.
• Flush and disinfect water lines and hydrants as required.
• Read, replace, and test water meters; assist with meter calibration and leak detection.
• Perform water sampling and field testing to help ensure compliance with applicable water quality standards.
• Assist with responding to and repairing water main breaks, leaks, and service interruptions.
• Operate, or learn to safely operate, light and heavy equipment including backhoes, mini excavators, dump trucks, sewer jetters, hydro excavators, trenchers, and other utility equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, water system activities, and service calls.
• Respond to emergency service calls, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
• Follow all City safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations related to water system operations.
• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
• Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with City employees, customers, contractors, and members of the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of water distribution system components, maintenance practices, and repair methods.
• Ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and utility equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and the public.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn safety practices related to confined spaces, trenching, excavation, traffic control, and utility construction.
• Ability to respond appropriately and efficiently during emergency situations.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1) year of experience in water utility, wastewater utility, public works, construction, or related maintenance work is preferred, but not required.
• Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
• Class B CDL is preferred, or the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment.
• Must successfully pass a background check, physical examination, and drug screening.
• Must obtain a TCEQ Class D Water Operator License within one (1) year of employment.
• Must be able to meet the physical and job-related requirements of the position.

• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach as necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Work in confined spaces and around excavation sites, traffic, heavy equipment, and utility infrastructure.
• Perform manual labor for extended periods.
• Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Work in environments where exposure to hazardous materials or potentially hazardous conditions may occur.

Work is performed primarily outdoors and in field environments and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, dust, dirt, noise, traffic, heavy equipment, excavation areas, and other potentially hazardous conditions.

The position requires a regular work schedule with the ability to respond to after-hours, weekend, holiday, and emergency callouts as needed. Employees must be able to respond to emergency service calls within the required 20-minute response time.
