Data Center Electrician - Critical Power Deployment

The Data Center Electrician will perform and support data center electrical deployment activities from overhead busway through cabinet-level power. This role will install and validate power equipment, support safe cabinet energization, replace in-rack power distribution units (PDUs), and help to maintain redundant, balanced, and reliable critical power paths. Work will be coordinated closely with Salute site leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Busway Tap Box Installation and Maintenance
    • Inspect overhead busway conditions before installation and identify visible defects or unsafe conditions.
    • Install customer-provided tap boxes in accordance with approved electrical layouts and designated cabinet power assignments.
    • Verify placement, orientation, electrical security, breaker sizing, labeling, and applicable torque requirements.
    • Support busway maintenance activities, including infrared (IR) scanning, as assigned.
    • Complete required installation documentation and activity reporting.
  • Cabinet Power Whip Connection
    • Route and secure cabinet power whips from tap boxes to customer cabinets.
    • Connect cabinet input power and verify cable integrity, connection points, and phase configuration where applicable.
    • Confirm labeling and complete a cable-management review.
  • Cabinet Mounting and Grounding Verification
    • Verify cabinets are securely mounted and stabilized and proper grounding/bonding installed, free of visible damage, and configured in accordance with approved documentation.
    • Confirm the cabinet and surrounding work area are safe and ready for energization.
  • Cabinet Energization Support
    • Coordinate energization with operations teams; activate breakers and validate voltage in accordance with approved procedures and authorization.
    • Confirm successful cabinet power-up and document completed energization activities.
  • In-Rack PDU Replacement
    • Remove failed or designated in-rack PDUs and install approved replacements.
    • Reconnect server power cords, restore orderly cable management, and verify cord connections.
    • Perform functional verification and confirm restored cabinet operation.
  • Power Distribution Planning and Validation
    • Validate cabinet power assignments to maintain end-to-end A/B redundancy and avoid introducing single points of failure.
    • Confirm loads are balanced across UPS systems and remain within defined capacity and operating limits.
    • Monitor circuit loading and escalate conditions that could create overload or redundancy risk.
    • Coordinate distribution changes with site operations and customer stakeholders.
    • Maintain alignment with approved electrical one-line diagrams and power plans throughout deployment.
  • Safety and Coordination Expectations
    • Perform work in accordance with site electrical safety policies, lockout/tagout requirements, approved procedures, and applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 70E.
    • Coordinate with site operations and customer representatives before energization or other electrical switching activities. Exercise best practices to minimize disruption and maintain equipment integrity during all replacement activities.
