The City of Crockett is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Crew Member.

The level and hourly pay rate is dependent upon related experience. This position may require working more than 40 hours per week and being on-call. The City of Crockett is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Summary:

The public works crew member performs various strenuous semi-skilled and skilled manual labor duties and operates power tools and light-duty automotive and related equipment as required to maintain, repair, and improve the city’s water and sewer lines, manholes, streets, alleys, city facilities and grounds of city facilities, and city parks. The position may also operate medium- and heavy-duty equipment, such as front-end loaders, backhoes, Bomags, rollers, chip spreaders, Hydroscopics, dump trucks, tractors with implements, and other equipment.

The area of assignment (water distribution, wastewater operations, street maintenance, park and facilities maintenance) depends upon the needs of the public works department and may also depend upon the skills and expertise of the individual employee.

Work Environment:

Work involves the performance of repetitive, heavy manual labor and the use of power tools and heavy equipment for extended periods and under extreme heat and cold conditions and in inclement weather with exposure to dust, odor, noise, electrical, and mechanical, and toxic and explosive hazards and toxic and chemical waste using proper safety precautions. Some work is performed in tight or enclosed areas such as trenches, involves walking through brush, and working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic while exercising appropriate safety precautions.

Required

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas Driver License, Class “C”. No experience required for Level I. Level II requires a competent level of precise skills/knowledge relating to job duties. Level III requires highly skilled related work experience. Ability to obtain commercial driver license if required. Ability to obtain water or wastewater certifications if required. Related experience may substitute for education.

Preferred

Education and Experience:

Experience performing semi-skilled and skilled manual labor in a public works or other work environment. Experience in the operation of medium- and heavy-duty equipment used in construction and right of way maintenance.
