Investigator - Inmate Grievance - Administrative Review and Risk Management Division - Rasmey

Job Summary

Performs routine investigative work involving the investigation of inmate grievances concerning reported and suspected violations of laws, rules, and regulations. This role is performed under moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.

• Conducts investigations of inmate grievances, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses and complainants.
• Prepares records, correspondence, and reports, evaluating and summarizing investigative findings.
• Prepares cases for presentation at hearings and in court, presenting testimony and evidence at hearings and court proceedings.
• Trains clerical staff.
• Performs a variety of marginal duties as needed.

• Education:
  
  Graduation from an accredited senior high school, GED, or equivalent.
• Experience:
  
  Three years full-time, wage-earning criminal justice, clerical, administrative support, or technical program support experience. Thirty semester hours from a college or university may substitute for each year of experience.
• Investigative experience is preferred.
• Knowledge:
  Investigative techniques, rules of evidence, applicable state and federal laws, and agency policies and procedures.
• Skills:
  
  Clear communication, coordination with others, problem‑solving, technical report preparation, complex investigation by interview and records, fact‑gathering and concise reporting, testimony in hearings and court proceedings, and training others.

• Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment.
• Working conditions:
  
  inside, around machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
• Equipment used: computer, calculator, copier, tape recorder, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
