Position: Case Manager III - Unit Classification - Wainwright Unit (029699)
Location: Lovelady

Job Summary

Provides highly complex case management work. Work involves developing and maintaining long-term contact with inmates, inmate families, and service providers for medical, social, educational, and related service needs; and supervising the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions
  • Interview inmates to gather information, assess service needs, develop and implement service plans, and serve as a liaison with inmates, families, and service providers.
  • Assist in coordinating and participating in unit classification committee meetings; identify problem areas, service gaps, and barriers; and maintain committee records.
  • Provide case management services including reviews of housing and work assignments, medical restrictions, security needs, time‑earning status, and custody levels; document case records; interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; and respond to routine inquiries.
  • Assist in conducting unit orientation for newly assigned inmates on facility rules, regulations, and available services and programs.
  • Train and supervise the work of others.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

A. Education, Experience, and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent, or GED.
  • Four years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in customer service, clerical, secretarial, criminal justice, correctional custody, law enforcement, case management, technical program support, or correctional unit operations. Each six months of experience can be substituted with fifteen semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in the supervision of employees preferred.
  • Inmate classification experience preferred.
  • B. Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Knowledge of case management principles, objectives, standards, and methods.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources preferred.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem‑solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand‑alone or local area network environment.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
  • Skill in the electronic transmission of communications.
  • Skill to assess inmate needs.
  • Skill to coordinate inmate services.
  • Skill to train and supervise the work of others.
  • Additional Requirements with or without Reasonable Accommodation
    • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
    • Working inside, around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, closely with others or alone, in protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, or airplane.
    • Use of computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
