Role Description

The Direct Support Professional is a part-time, on-site role located in Kaufman, TX, providing daily support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Bee Happy Programs' various initiatives. This role includes assisting participants with daily living skills, personal care as needed, and safe community integration activities. The Direct Support Professional helps facilitate vocational training, recreational activities, and structured programming that promote independence, social interaction, and skill development.

Responsibilities also include monitoring participant progress, documenting services, following individual support plans, and communicating effectively with families, coworkers, and supervisors. The role requires modeling respectful, person-centered support, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and aligning day-to-day interactions with the organization’s mission and values.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess skills in Human Services, including supporting individuals with diverse needs and providing person-centered care.
  • Candidates should possess strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build trust, collaborate with teams, and interact effectively with participants and families.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of Intellectual Disabilities, including understanding behavioral supports, safety practices, and inclusion-focused approaches.
  • Candidates should possess Training-related skills, such as guiding participants through life skills, vocational tasks, and structured activities.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or higher in a related field preferred), previous experience in direct support or caregiving, basic computer and documentation skills, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet any required background checks and health clearances.
  • Commitment to respectful, non-discriminatory practices and comfort working within a faith-based organizational setting are also important.
