Overview

Transport Maint Crew Chief - (2600321)

Position Information:
The Odessa District McCamey Maintenance Office is looking for a Crew Chief who will lead transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators to improve roadways. Works with a maintenance section supervisor and may assist in administration of the maintenance section. Responds to emergency notification on an as-needed basis.

Work Schedule:

Mon - Thurs 7:00 am – 5:30 pm;
Onsite with location flexibility. Travel:
Yes, up to 10%.

Pay and Benefits:

Salary Grade — Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief: (A20) $51,258.00 - $81,351.00 annually. Pay basis:
Yearly. FLSA Status:

Responsibilities
  • Lead a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities.
  • Assist in administration of the maintenance section and estimate/materials/equipment needed for assignments.
  • Inspect roads en route to and from job sites and report problems to supervisors.
  • Maintain records on materials, equipment, and employee time sheets.
  • Perform some maintenance and repair on equipment and train crew members on equipment use.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience

5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without transmission restrictions and an "N" endorsement at the time of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Incident management procedures; applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes; operating light and heavy highway equipment; leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others; coordinating labor, materials, and equipment; training in classroom, office, or field environments; maintaining safe working relationships and environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to extreme temperatures, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions; may require heavy lifting and physical exertion.
  • Work in small/crawl spaces, manholes, narrow aisles or passageways; use protective gear; pre-employment physical and drug testing requirements apply.
  • Work hours may vary; required to work weekends and holidays; emergency response capability within 30 minutes notice for 24-hour operations.
