Overview

The Fleet Maintenance Shop Manager directly oversees the operation of the transportation equipment maintenance program at Hutchins, TX. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair activities of in‑house fleet maintenance technicians and external contractors, ensuring timely, orderly, and high‑quality service. Knowledgeable in truck and trailer maintenance, the Manager provides team leadership and coaching to develop technicians and other personnel into proactive problem‑solving team members focused on caring for teammates across Transportation, the Distribution Center, Operators, and Restaurants.

The Manager demonstrates a service‑first attitude while maintaining fiscally responsible behaviors in planning/scheduling maintenance, working with external vendors and suppliers, and managing on‑site tools, equipment, and spare parts. They work with external vendors to ensure accurate invoicing and vendor payment, and that contract terms and service level agreements are met. The Manager also participates in hiring and training of field resources and reports directly to the Fleet Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the overall fleet maintenance operation for the Hutchins, TX location, including up to three shifts of employees working nights and weekends.
  • Develop strategies and plans to align available resources and external service providers with the needs of Transportation Operations to maximize equipment availability.
  • Ensure maintenance operations are performed safely and timely in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform inspections and provide feedback on work performed.
  • Ensure maintenance requirements are understood; train the team on required activities and desired outcomes; routinely review and update SOPs.
  • Plan and dispatch daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities, coordinating services from external vendors.
  • Hold accountability for all technicians and contractors working safely.
  • Participate in hiring new staff or onboarding contractors.
  • Lead shop continuous improvement efforts.
  • Communicate proactively with Transportation and DC Operations about maintenance issues that could disrupt delivery to restaurants.
  • Monitor performance reports and dashboards to determine if KPIs and SLAs are achieved; initiate corrective actions.
  • Manage vendor activities, including participation in third‑party governance meetings.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure fleet maintenance requirements are met.
  • Support off‑shift critical work and emergency repairs.
  • Perform duties of Fleet Maintenance Technician when required.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems, using technology/software as needed.
  • Guide diagnostics and repair of complex tasks.
  • Participate in capital planning and repair‑vs‑replace decisions.
  • Ensure spare parts, tools, equipment, and PPE are available when needed.
  • Coach teams to effective execution and build capability and ownership of systems.
  • Train staff as required.
  • Review Fleet Management procedures annually and recommend changes.
  • Hold P&L responsibility for the Hutchins, TX shop and oversee the annual budget.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 8+ years of experience in fleet management and maintenance.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of on‑highway vehicle maintenance (tractors, refrigerated trailers, box trucks, liftgates).
  • Industry‑leading knowledge and continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills; team player who can work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and multitasking skills.
  • Experience using a CMMS or FMMS solution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel as required to support transportation operations remotely.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking) for accurate documentation and communication.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • 10 years of experience in fleet maintenance for on‑highway vehicles.
  • EPA 608 & EPA 609 license holder.
  • Class A CDL holder.
  • ASE certifications maintained and up‑to‑date.
  • Servant‑leader mindset with humility.
  • Robust knowledge of industry standards, leading practices, and benchmarks.
  • Knowledge of alternative fuel vehicles and related support capabilities.
