Highway Maintenance Section Supervisor II – Baird, TX (2601259)
Oversees a maintenance section and is responsible for maintaining safe roadways within a geographic area of the state through the maintenance of all roads, structures and rights‑of‑way. Supervises technical and clerical employees and establishes its own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.

- Administers and inspects contracted maintenance activities.
- Handles public complaints and inspects road conditions.
- Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents and hazardous material spills.
- Plans, schedules and coordinates work project needs with the Area Engineer and other district staff.
- Prepares and monitors the budget and prioritizes and assigns projects to the maintenance section assistant and crew chiefs.
- Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.
- Manages maintenance section office activities including human resources, public relations, facilities, inventory management and general office administrative matters.
- Oversees the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment.
- Trains other employees.
- High School Graduate or equivalent in general high school studies.
- 8 years roadway maintenance or construction‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may substitute for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
- Must have 3 years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
- Valid Commercial Class "A" Driver License (CDL) with an N Endorsement and no restrictions.
Extensive knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work; materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance; applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes. Considerable knowledge of applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements;
Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; incident management procedures; inventory/stock control procedures; budgets; maintenance contract inspection procedures; and supervising technical staff.
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
- Must wear protective gear – respirator, hard hat, or other device.
- Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions as described.
Pre‑employment physical exam required. Must pass a drug test prior to employment. Must report for duty within 40 minutes of notification on a 24‑hour basis to respond during emergency situations.
