The Odessa District Balmorhea Maintenance Office is looking for a Crew Chief who wants to combine their experience and leadership skills with their knowledge and expertise of transportation maintenance to improve the condition of our roadways. Minimum Salary: $54,278.00
Maximum Salary: $87,046.00
Pay Basis: Yearly
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Travel: Yes, 10 % of the Time
Shift: Day 40-hour week, Monday-Thursday, 7am-5:30pm, Onsite

Responsibilities- Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities.
- Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
- Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
- Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
- Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Responds to emergency notifications on an as‑needed basis and contacts private entities as required.
- Works independently on assignments while referring unusual issues to the supervisor.
High School Graduate or equivalent in general education.
Experience5 years of roadway maintenance related work. Full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related college education or technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without transmission restrictions and an "N" endorsement at the time of hire.
- Extensive knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
- Extensive knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Considerable knowledge of incident management procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
- Considerable knowledge of operating light and heavy highway equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
- Considerable knowledge of coordinating labor, materials, and equipment.
- Considerable training in a classroom, office, or field environment.
- Considerable knowledge of maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
- Considerable knowledge of maintaining a safe working environment.
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
- Subject to noise and vibration.
- Subject to hazards – moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions – fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation.
- Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
- Required to wear protective gear – respirator, hard hat, or other device.
- Works frequently in small/crawl spaces; manholes; areas that can cause claustrophobia.
- Works in narrow aisles or passageways.
- Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
- Sitting – prolonged periods of time.
- Balancing – walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
