Job Summary and Principal Duties
Performs tasks associated with and assists in the construction of county roads and bridges.
Duties include operating pick-up trucks, tools and flagging, patching potholes, transporting equipment, and clearing brush and trash from roadsides.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Foreman (Road and Bridge)
This is a non-supervisory position.
Has daily contact with co-workers.
- Operates road construction equipment including pickup trucks, front-end loaders, tractors;
Operates various hand and power tools, including chainsaws, shovels, sledgehammers, mowers. - Assists in the construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges, including setting up barricades at work sites to warn traffic of hazardous areas, measuring, cleaning, and filling potholes.
- Hand shovels dirt, gravel, or asphalt.
- Tamps, packs, and levels dirt, asphalt, or other material.
- Trims trees and brush, mows grass, picks up brush and trash, and loads onto truck.
- Loads and unloads road construction signs and materials using pick-up trucks for transport to job sites;
Sets up cones and barricades for use in road construction projects. - Performs such other related duties as may be assigned

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, equipment, and materials used in the construction and maintenance of bridges
- Safe operation of equipment used
- Provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of motorized equipment
- Understand and follow instructions
- Learn to use power and/or hand-operated tools
- Tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
- Maintain a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities and a good driving record
- Sufficient education to understand, interpret, and follow instructions
- Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Appropriate Texas driver's license
