Job Description – Transportation Maintenance Tech I‑II – Robertson County (2600979)

TxDOT's Bryan District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II based in Robertson County
. This position will perform routine work related to transportation activities such as roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergency situations.

Salary

General Transportation Tech I: $40,918 – $61,130

General Transportation Tech II: $42,976 – $64,469

Responsibilities for Transportation Maintenance Tech I
  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; uses or moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs or moves devices.
  • Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintains highways and rights‑of‑way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights‑of‑way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
  • Moves or picks up litter and roadway debris.
  • Mows rights‑of‑way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance, including trimming trees and brushing.
  • Operates light equipment such as a front‑end loader (one and a quarter cubic yard or less), pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; completes required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
  • Sand or cleans bridges and roads; posts warning signs; helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous‑material spills.
  • Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II
  • Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.
  • Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as a front‑end loader (one and a half cubic yard or more), tractor‑trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses or moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
  • Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
  • Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.
