We're looking for a General Transportation Tech I or II to join our Lampasas Co Maintenance team and play a vital role in ensuring smooth transportation operations. From maintaining and repairing roadways to operating both light and heavy equipment, your contributions will keep things running smoothly.
You'll also be performing preventive maintenance, assisting with traffic control, and providing crucial help to the public during emergency situations. Earn your full salary while training with lodging, transportation and per-diem provided, if necessary. Anticipated Starting Salary: $4,200 - $4,500/monthly
Important:
As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to complete a simulation designed to evaluate practical application of concepts relevant to the role. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.
Minimum Salary: $50,000.00
Maximum Salary: $54,000.00

Position Description
Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I include:
- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites
- Move/picks up litter and roadway debris
- Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
- Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI
- Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
- Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II include:
- * Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project
- * Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
