Purpose:
To plan, coordinate and supervise the operation of the total Division of Transportation in such a way as to promote and maximize the educational benefits available to each individual child.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required;
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in logistics, business management, or related field preferred. - Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B or Class A with Passenger and School Bus Driver Endorsements); can be obtained within 90 days of hire date.
- Texas School Bus Driver Certification; can be obtained within 90 days of hire date.
Experience/Knowledge: Principles and practices of personnel administration, including methods and techniques used in recruitment and selection, classification, salary administration, training, safety, and affirmative action; proper safety programs and policies; training, techniques and program development; applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
Responsibilities- Assist the Transportation Director with daily operations of the transportation department.
- Establish and maintain bus routes with approval of the Transportation Director and T.E.A. to meet district needs, recommending changes as population shifts or other factors require.
- Prepare reports on mapping and rezoning of the district as needed.
- Conduct safety meetings monthly with the transportation department to ensure safety policies are met.
- Conduct special education training for staff transporting special needs children to ensure compliance with federal rules and guidelines.
- Maintain adequate and complete records to compile required reports for the Transportation Director and local/state needs.
- Complete Accident Incident Report forms for on-the-job accidents/injuries.
- Promote good public relations and keep parents informed of transportation practices and procedures.
- Assist the Transportation Director in monitoring the implementation of the students routing system.
- Enforce observance of safe and proper driving of all transportation vehicles as defined by law.
- Accompany school bus convoys on special trips when deemed necessary.
- Work with school principals to ensure proper conduct of students who ride school buses.
- Analyze personnel needs and make recommendations to the Transportation Director.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Transportation Director.
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy; procedures and data; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors: Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Position Working Days: 240 Days
