Job Title

Department of Seine-Maritime is recruiting a second deckhand for the Mesnil under Jumièges ferry.

Each year, the Seine-Maritime Department's ferry service allows more than 3 million vehicles to cross the Seine. The operational hours and frequency of ferry crossings are determined to provide users with a high-quality, convenient service, meeting personal and professional travel needs. In total, eight ferries are managed and operated by the Department, connecting the two banks of the river from Canteleu to Quillebeuf-sur-Seine.

This practical and economical mode of transport contributes to the quality of life of users. This essential public service for the de-isolation of areas between the Seine bends significantly reduces travel distances and times. Two types of ferries provide the crossing: maritime ferries with a capacity of about 30 vehicles, which can transport all types of heavy goods vehicles, and fluvial ferries with a capacity of about 10 to 12 vehicles.

This fleet is currently being modernized to combine service quality with environmental respect.

In this context, the ferry operations service is looking for a second deckhand for the Mesnil under Jumièges ferry. You will ensure the docking and departure maneuvers of the quays and jetties (if you have the driver's certificate) and organize the embarkation of vehicles and passengers in compliance with safety rules. You will ensure the safety of passengers and vehicles in the hold and during crossings.

You will control the number of passengers allowed on board the ferry and ensure the safety of vehicle access to the hold using the hold channel. You will participate in safety exercises and ensure the availability of safety facilities. You will carry out maintenance and upkeep operations of the ferry, deck, holds, and premises. You will report to the ferry technical service of any anomalies and contribute to the establishment of intervention needs to be programmed.

You will take the necessary arrangements for the functional supervision of the crew in the absence of the first deckhand and can conduct internal training on ferry operation. Occasionally, you may participate in river transit between a water crossing and the car-care sites of Rouen or Le Havre or the Yainville jetty or between water crossings.

Technical assistant cadre of territorial employees. You possess the certificate of capacity for deckhand. You master fluvial regulations, have basic nautical and safety knowledge, and understand the functions of each service agent. You are reactive, meticulous, have a sense of contact, and team spirit. Specifics of the position:

Art. L332-8 provision 2 of the general code of the public service - A contractual employee may be recruited for this position for the needs of the services or by the nature of the functions when no candidacy of a civil servant has succeeded. The proposed contract may not exceed three years, renewable up to a maximum duration of six years.
