TxDOT’s Yoakum District is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Technician II or III to join the Jackson County Maintenance Office in Edna, TX. The role involves maintaining highway and right‑of‑way assets, operating heavy and light equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and providing support during emergency situations.
Job SummaryTransportation Maint Tech II or III – responsible for road maintenance and repair, traffic control, equipment operation, and public assistance during emergencies. Works independently on assignments, reporting unusual issues to a supervisor.
Responsibilities- Inspect traffic control devices and ensure compliance with specifications, safety laws, and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Maintain highways and rights‑of‑way, perform roadway repairs, and erect or repair guard rails, highway markers, and signs.
- Identify, repair, and install signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts; weld where necessary.
- Assist local law enforcement at accident sites and provide assistance to stranded motorists.
- Perform traffic control duties: place cones, warning signs, barricades, and flag traffic.
- Collect litter and roadway debris.
- Operate heavy equipment (front‑end loader, tractor‑trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, dump truck).
- Operate light equipment (front‑end loader up to 1¼ cubic yards, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, mower).
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment.
- Perform bridge and road cleaning, post warning signs, and assist during emergencies such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.

:
Transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work. Full‑time or prorated part‑time experience acceptable. Related technical training may substitute for experience equivalently. - Licenses and Certifications
:- Valid driver’s license.
- Commercial Driver Certificate and Commercial Driver’s License.
- Knowledge
:- Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering and maintenance.
- Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
- Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair.
- Use of hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade.
- Computer applications and related systems.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
Transportation Maint Tech II (A17): $42,976 - $64,469 per year.
Transportation Maint Tech III (A18): $45,521 - $71,055 per year.

- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibration, and hazards such as moving vehicles and chemicals.
