Substitute Bus Driver

The Substitute Bus Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students within the CISD Transportation Department. This position is responsible for operating school buses on an as-needed basis, providing reliable service during the absence of regular drivers. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to student safety, punctuality, and excellent customer service.

• Operate school buses safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure proper functioning and safety.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment, ensuring that all safety equipment is in place.
• Monitor student behavior during transit to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and procedures.
• Report any incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues to the Transportation Department promptly.
• Assist with loading and unloading of students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety at all times.
• Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on policies and safety protocols.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Department.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with (P) and (S) endorsements.
• Clean driving record with no major violations.
• Ability to manage student behavior and maintain a safe environment.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, afternoons, and occasional weekends.
• Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings as mandated by law.
