Position Information

Join our team in this lead role as a Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief and take the lead in guiding a dedicated crew of skilled technicians and equipment operators.

In this role, you’ll ensure smooth and efficient transportation maintenance operations while assisting with the administration of the maintenance section. You’ll be crucial in responding to emergency situations, playing a vital part in maintaining our community’s infrastructure.

Collaborating with private entities, you’ll foster strong relationships and help drive successful outcomes. Independent and proactive, you’ll take on assignments with confidence and know when to elevate complex issues.

Important:
As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to complete a simulation designed to evaluate practical application of concepts relevant to the role.

Anticipated starting salary: A21: $60,000 - $66,000/yearly

Minimum Salary: 60,000.00

Maximum Salary: 66,000.00

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews.
  • Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
  • Assists with surveying-related work.
  • Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors
  • Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
  • Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
  • Monitors materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment.
  • Oversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activities.
  • Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
  • Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Education

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience

5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted…
