The Bus Engagement Manager plays a vital role in advancing Metro Relief's mission by leading mobile street outreach operations, cultivating meaningful partnerships with churches and community organizations, and recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers. This position provides compassionate engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness while overseeing outreach logistics, volunteer experiences, and community partnerships that foster meaningful relationships, connect people to resources, and create pathways toward stability and hope.

Roles and Responsibilities Bus Outreach Leadership
- Lead and coordinate two Metro Relief bus outreaches each week and work to add more when beneficial for partnering purposes.
- Ensure the safe, efficient, and welcoming operation of all outreach events.
- Oversee food preparation, distribution, cleanup, and inventory.
- Facilitate engaging conversations and meaningful experiences for volunteers and guests during outreach.
- Coordinate bus maintenance, fueling, cleaning, and communicate repair needs.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, transportation, and organizational policies.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and crisis situations.
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and support bus volunteers.
- Provide leadership, delegation, encouragement, and coaching during outreach events.
- Develop and facilitate volunteer training centered on Metro Relief's mission, values, and outreach philosophy.
- Coordinate volunteer opportunities with churches, schools, businesses, and community organizations.
- Host mission teams, volunteer groups, and individual volunteers to create meaningful service experiences.
- Cultivate long-term volunteer relationships through ongoing communication and appreciation.
- Utilize volunteer management software and technology to coordinate scheduling, communication, and follow-up, including thank-you messages.
Outreach & Client Engagement
- Build authentic relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Coordinate with the Operations Director to ensure Mobile Case Managers (MCMs) are integrated into bus outreaches.
- Connect guests with case managers and community resources for ongoing support, diversion, and housing opportunities.
- Collaborate with outreach staff and community partners to provide compassionate, person-centered care.
Administration
- Maintain accurate outreach data and volunteer records in compliance with organizational policies.
- Complete reports, expense documentation, and operational logs in a timely manner.
- Monitor outreach inventory and coordinate supply needs.
- Respond promptly to emails, phone calls, and other communications.
- Assist with donation drives, outreach logistics, and special events as needed.
Required Skills

- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
- A creative self-starter with strong initiative and the ability to follow projects through to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading volunteers, teams, or community groups.
- Strong partnership-building skills with churches, businesses, and community organizations.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, AI productivity tools, and volunteer management software.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation.
- Minimum of one year of continuous sobriety.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Food Handler or Food Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to safely operate Metro Relief outreach vehicles (training provided).
