Position: Field Service Technician 2 - Texas First Rentals

The Field Service Technician II provides face‑to‑face customer service located at an off‑site location and is responsible for minor troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning of various light and heavy construction equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Model the company mission and core business values, collaborate with key internal and external resources, and participate in ongoing self‑development.
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies, company procedures, and standards.
  • Perform minor repairs and minimal troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures through minor troubleshooting.
  • Remove, install, disassemble, and assemble parts and basic components.
  • Test, make adjustments, and verify proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Prepare and complete all job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain clear customer records; access required databases to complete jobs.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Project professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; mentor lower‑level technicians as appropriate.
  • Maintain regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and basic machine electronic systems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Basic diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities and efficiently use time.
  • Operation and control skills for equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the appropriate tools and equipment for a job.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Certification/licensing to operate a crane and forklift, and ability to obtain required certifications/licenses.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast‑paced, time‑constraining circumstances.
  • Operational skills with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
  • Precise coordination of finger movements to manipulate small objects.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • More than two years of heavy equipment experience required; three or more years preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Air conditioning certification preferred.
  • Crane/Rigger certifications preferred.

Additional Technical

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.
Travel
  • Travel required with the possibility of overnight stays.
Physical Requirements
  • Move objects using abdominal and lower back muscles without fatigue.
  • Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs requiring good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend and descend ladders and equipment using both hands and feet.
  • Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • React to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and inspect work visually.
Work Environment
  • Wearing common protective or safety equipment required.
  • Works outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity when working outside.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Work performed in cramped spaces and/or high places.
