Job Description

North Wasco County School District is pleased to announce that we are seeking qualified applicants for Elementary Teaching positions (Grades 4‑5) at Chenowith Elementary School in The Dalles, Oregon.

Our district comprises three elementary schools, each committed to providing the best possible education for our students.

Salary

Non‑PERS: $46,665 – $93,402 per year.

PERS: $49,643 – $99,362 per year.

Job Purpose

To develop students’ academic and interpersonal skills through district‑approved curriculum, document teaching progress, address individual educational needs, provide a safe learning environment, and give timely feedback to students, parents, and administration.

Qualifications & Licensure
  • BA/BS or higher in Curriculum, Elementary Education, Reading, Early Childhood Education, or similar (required).
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License meeting Highly Qualified requirements.
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with diverse backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
  • Knowledge of age‑appropriate methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Willingness to teach any qualified subject area and maintain appropriate licenses and endorsements.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Use varied classroom techniques.
  • Promote high achievement relative to student abilities.
  • Apply research‑based instructional principles and organize instruction with learning objectives.
  • Employ strategies that encourage student involvement.
  • Monitor learning and pace instruction accordingly.
  • Create a conducive learning environment, articulated classroom behavior rules, and enforce them.
  • Communicate course goals, expectations, health and safety standards to students.
  • Prepare lessons and align them with district standards.
  • Develop grading standards, clearly explain them to parents, and maintain records.
  • Build motivation and interest in learning, maintain current knowledge of the subject area.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth and attend workshops.
  • Assist in creating a cooperative school atmosphere.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, appropriate judgment, and neat appearance.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Collaborate with licensed staff and supervisor.
