Job Description

District Focus: North Wasco County School District seeks a qualified Reading/Title I Specialist for the 26'-27' school year.

Job Purpose Statement/s: The Reading/Title I Specialist promotes and develops successful reading instruction, maintains cooperation with staff, parents, and students, provides group and individual instruction, and supervises paraprofessionals, measuring student progress.

Responsibilities
  • Implement assessment instruments to determine eligibility and instructional needs of students in reading.
  • Provide pre‑ and post‑assessment data to program supervisor.
  • Provide a variety of instructional techniques and methods, promoting high levels of achievement in relation to individual abilities.
  • Use research‑based principles of effective instruction, organize instruction using learning objectives, employ strategies, and monitor student learning.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective student learning, including written rules, enforcement, and communication of goals.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans based on District Reading Standards.
  • Develop and communicate appropriate progress grading standards to students and parents.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with administration, staff, students, and parents; communicate with classified, certified, and administrative staff; direct instructional assistants.
  • Provide documentation of student progress, timely feedback, record keeping, and communicate with parents and teachers.
  • Build motivation and interest in learning, exhibit personal interest, and stay current in literature and reading activities.
  • Maintain a program of professional growth, implement an annual plan, attend workshops, participate in district in‑service offerings.
  • Act as instructional leader in reading; coordinate and develop Title I program, assist mainstream teachers, develop in‑services, plan parent involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by principal or superintendent; enforce rules, share responsibility for non‑classroom activities.
Qualifications & Licensure
  • BA/BS or higher degree in Curriculum, Elementary Education, Reading (must hold Reading endorsement), Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License (must meet Highly Qualified Requirements).
  • Motivational skills, communication with diverse backgrounds, instruction of support personnel, performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of age‑appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, and instructional subjects.
  • Right to teach any qualified subject area, holds necessary license and endorsements.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities
  • Skills to motivate students and communicate effectively.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, appropriate judgment, neatness, and appearance.
  • Maintain punctual attendance.
  • Co‑operate with licensed staff and supervisor regularly.
