Instructional Assistant (Part Time 185 4hr Days)

The Instructional Assistant supports student learning, development, and safety by assisting teachers in the delivery of instruction, classroom routines, and individualized support. This position works with children in whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one settings to reinforce early academic skills, promote social–emotional growth, and assist with daily living needs. The Instructional Assistant helps prepare and organize classroom materials, supports behavior and classroom management, supervises students during transitions and play, and provides personal-care assistance such as toileting or diapering when required.

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position may perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of student progress.
  • Assist in the presentation of instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Assists with collecting and maintaining accurate documentation as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintains a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Provides child-care support during parent classes and workshops and assists with family-focused programming.
  • Collaborates successfully with teachers and other program staff to support student growth.
  • Delivers targeted academic and behavioral support to assigned students, implementing individualized strategies and interventions to help them meet established learning goals and demonstrate measurable growth.
  • Supports the implementation of individualized accommodations and modifications as directed for students qualified for special education.
  • When assigned, may accompany students, including students with disabilities, on school transportation to support safety, supervision, and student needs during transit.
  • Communicate with students in English and/or Spanish to facilitate instructional processes; provide interpretation during telephone calls with limited or non-English speaking parents; translate or write notes, letters and other materials.
  • Observe and provide appropriate behavior support following department policies to provide a clean, safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Assists with routine classroom clean-up and organization between activities to maintain a safe, sanitary, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students. This may include wiping tables and learning surfaces, organizing instructional materials, assisting children with age-appropriate clean-up, and resetting classroom spaces to support smooth transitions between instructional activities.
  • Perform duties relating to a student's physical needs.
  • Assists staff with record keeping, copying, filing, data entry and taking attendance.
  • Assists the teacher in developing educational materials (copying, typing, laminating, etc.).
  • Assists the teacher in the set-up and maintenance of the classroom, materials and supplies.
  • Assists the teacher in scheduling appropriate meetings and completion of paperwork.
  • Assists the teacher, when directed, in communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Participates effectively at regular team meetings with teachers and other support staff using appropriate social skills.
  • Keeps appropriate confidentiality as required by law regarding student and staff information.
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to the supervisor.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
  • Dress appropriately for the position. Refer to Staff Dress Code in the Employee Handbook.
  • Provide professional and responsive support to students, staff and families.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
  • Represent the ESD and school positively and professionally in all interactions.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
