The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. The role involves conducting risk assessments, providing training, and maintaining accurate records to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Environmental compliance monitoring is a priority for this position, including supporting sustainable practices and projects.
The HSE Manager will report to the Plant Manager.
Duties include:
- Provides strong HSE leadership at all levels. Ensures HSE standards are well integrated into all operational processes.
- Formulates safety policies and procedures to be followed by company and plant personnel in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining ISO compliant programs for 14001 and 45001.
- Responsible for environmental recordkeeping and administration, including compliance with permits, operating conditions, sampling, and regulatory standards as it relates to Title V Air Permitting, NPDES Water Permitting, 1200Z Stormwater Permitting, Local City Discharge Permit and other state and local regulations.
- Coordinates with federal (EPA) and state (DEQ/OSHA) regulators as needed for both reporting and onsite inspections.
- Devises, supervises and coordinates training programs and media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote HSE consciousness.
- Supports, develops and executes processes to reduce injury and incident rates.
- Supports, develops and executes processes related to environmental sustainability.
- Develops and provides hands‑on continuous safety and environmental training for all employees.
- Maintains current and accurate information on the company’s Incident Management System website. Keeps safety records, including training, evacuations, and accident and incident records.
- Assists in developing goals and objectives for the HSE department that are aligned with corporate goals and objectives.
- Conducts HSE Management System (HSEMS) audits to verify continuous compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, new equipment purchases, capital equipment purchases, chemicals introduced into the plant, disposal of waste, fire prevention, site security and safety programs including the need for industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Actively participates in cross‑company collaboration and works well with above‑plant resources.
- Provides shop floor presence to evaluate existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective and/or preventive measures as necessary.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years progressive HSE responsibilities in a manufacturing environment
- BA/BS degree in Safety and Health Management, Environmental Sciences or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of environmental programs and environmental management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and procedures.
- Effective project management skills, self‑motivated, team oriented, timely, problem‑solving skills, and excellent record‑keeping and documentation skills.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and influence others and communicate complex technical information.
- Computer skills required in Microsoft Office.
- Must be highly motivated and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
