Wasco Electric Cooperative has provided electric services to residents and businesses outside of The Dalles, Oregon, and surrounding areas for over 80 years, including Dufur, Grass Valley, Maupin, and Mosier. We serve parts of Wasco, Sherman, Jefferson, Wheeler, and Gilliam Counties. We pride ourselves on a close-knit, safety-focused work environment and a tradition of service excellence.

Position Overview

As a Journeyman Lineman, you will be part of our operations and maintenance team. Primary responsibilities include the installation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems. You will help ensure the safety and reliability of the power grid and assist with power restoration during outages and emergencies. The main office is in The Dalles, OR, with warehouses in The Dalles, Grass Valley, and Maupin.

Linemen should live within a 45-minute response time to their assigned work location for outage restoration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely install, maintain, and repair power lines, poles, and associated equipment.
  • Operate electric line construction equipment, including stringing equipment, backhoes, derrick diggers, material handlers, and trucks.
  • Perform line work on a pole or in a bucket truck in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct regular inspections and identify potential hazards to ensure safety compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve power outages, interruptions, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to enhance system longevity and reliability.
  • Document work performed and maintain records of maintenance activities.
  • Stay current with changes and technologies necessary to perform job functions.
  • Collaborate with a team to respond to emergencies and restore power.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and customers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Share skills and knowledge with others and participate in special projects as assigned to achieve goals.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program recognized by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) and the IBEW is required.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Air-Brake endorsement or ability to obtain Oregon driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to work at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety.
  • Competitive salary of $63.55 per hour.

  • 9-hour workdays with every other Friday off (9-80 schedule).
