As the Senior Workday Payroll Tax and Accounting Manager you will report to the Director of Payroll Operations and manage the payroll tax and accounting staff. You will oversee compliance and reporting for both the McKesson and US Oncology employees and legal entities and work with multiple levels of management on complex issues.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the activities of the McKesson and USON Tax and Accounting teams. Develop work schedules, monitor workflow, and ensure deadlines for accounting, tax filing, and reporting are achieved.
- Interact daily with direct reports to monitor progress of assigned tasks and establish goals and objectives for the team.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls; develop, monitor, and enforce policies, and keep Standard Operating Procedures and SLAs updated.
- Handle special projects and provide assistance across the functional payroll group.
- Coach and develop employees, provide feedback, rewards and recognition, and identify personal growth plans.
- Provide tax and accounting planning and compliance expertise to management, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Participate in PI planning and recommend projects for improved efficiency.
- Coordinate with the USON Payroll Manager on payroll tax processes for mergers and acquisitions, ensuring proper tax treatment of acquired employees and new tax account setup.
- Oversee SOX and internal accounting audits, negotiate and recommend settlement of any outstanding issues.
9+ years of professional experience and 3+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.
Critical Skills- Fluency in payroll, payroll tax (federal, state, local withholding, unemployment), and accounting including accruals, journal entries, variance, and reconciliation.
- Highly analytical, detail‑oriented, and data‑driven.
- Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent professional communication skills – listening, verbal, and written.
- Strong accounting and general ledger knowledge.
- Payroll tax processing experience in a multi‑state environment.
- Manage payroll tax vendor relationships to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with other supervisors and functional areas within McKesson.
- Drive process improvement and automation for efficiency.
- Advanced proficiency in the Workday Payroll system.
- Advanced proficiency in ADP Tax Reporting system.
- Advanced proficiency in SAP General Ledger system.
- Knowledge of Blackline.
4‑year degree or equivalent.
Physical RequirementsLarge percent of time performing computer‑based work.
CompensationBase Pay Range: $100,800 – $168,000. Additional compensation may include annual bonuses or long‑term incentive opportunities.
