Role OverviewThe Staff Accountant – US Oncology Network (USON) is an individual contributor responsible for supporting core accounting activities for assigned USON practices. This role assists with the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and account analyses under the direction of Senior Accountants and Accounting Managers.
The Staff Accountant applies standard accounting principles and established procedures to complete assigned work, develops accounting knowledge and technical skills, and contributes to accurate and timely financial reporting within a multi-entity healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare assigned journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly close process.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and investigate routine reconciling items for resolution.
- Assist with income statement reviews by performing expense analyses and researching variances.
- Support accounting activities related to prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leases, intercompany transactions, and other assigned accounts.
- Prepare and maintain supporting documentation for accounting transactions, controls, and Information Used in Controls (IUC).
- Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Support internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and responding to routine inquiries.
- Utilize Excel and accounting systems to analyze data, prepare reports, and complete recurring accounting activities.
- Partner with Practice Controllers, Senior Accountants, and other internal stakeholders to support financial reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency in accounting processes and communicate recommendations to management.
- Manage multiple assignments while meeting established deadlines and quality expectations.
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 2+ years of relevant experience.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Critical Skills
- Typically requires 2+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Basic understanding of US GAAP and accounting close processes.
- Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement relationships.
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, IF statements).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
