Overview
Acara Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineer for High Voltage & Industrial Power to join our client on a long term contract assignment located in the Woodlands TX.
$70-$90/hr. payrate
Seeking a High Voltage Electrical Engineer with experience in medium- and high-voltage power distribution. The role focuses on designing, reviewing, and optimizing electrical systems and controls for safety, reliability, and compliance. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams—including project management, procurement, mechanical and automation engineers, and customers—to deliver efficient solutions, oversee multiple projects, and ensure timely, high-quality electrical deliverables.
Responsibilities- Design, analyze, and maintain high voltage power systems (480V-34.5kV) across power generation, transmission, distribution, substations, industrial plants, and utility infrastructures.
- Develop electrical power and control systems for industrial equipment, including Air Separation Units, LNG, and CO systems.
- Create and review one-line diagrams, schematics, and control system architecture; specify electrical components such as transformers, switch gear, MCCs, VFDs, and instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (IEC, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA).
- Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on-site.
- Conduct high voltage acceptance testing (HiPot, partial discharge, insulation testing) and oversee substation and line commissioning.
- Implement electrical safety policies, including arc flash boundaries, lockout/tagout, grounding procedures, and safe approach distances.
- Provide project and construction support, including engineering packages, vendor drawing reviews, procurement support, and participation in FAT/SAT.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7 years minimum experience in electrical engineering; experience with industrial gases, ASU, LNG, or CO equipment desired.
- PE certification preferred.
- Knowledge of power distribution, motor controls, and automation systems.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar).
- Familiarity with PLC/DCS control systems and instrumentation preferred.
- Willingness to travel short-term, including international assignments.
