Overview

Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to join our team, in Pulmonary, at the Woodlands area location. With multiple locations around Houston, our experience and services extend into your neighborhood. MD Anderson provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology services along with a range of supportive programs at all of its greater Houston area locations. At MD Anderson The Woodlands, patients in The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe and communities north of Houston have access to top-ranked, comprehensive cancer care close to home.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse with at least three years of clinical experience, preferably with procedural experience in Endoscopy or Pulmonary. This individual demonstrates strong critical thinking abilities and approaches patient care with proactive problem solving and sound clinical judgment. Adaptability is essential, as the role requires navigating evolving patient needs, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to a supportive, patient centered environment.

The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Key Functions
  • Transformational Leadership:
    Organizes and prioritizes work of the patient care team, including administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents, pump connects /disconnects, administration of antibiotic therapy, administration of IV fluids, rapid response to chemotherapy reactions/ emergencies, IV starts, etc.

    Assures continuity of care as patients transition across the continuum through appropriate patient education and coordination of services.

    Accountable for identifying barriers to patient care and solutions.

    Active in developing strong relationships and partnerships with the organization to improve patient outcomes.

    Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

    Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.

    Responsible for coverage for Surgical Oncology and Infusion patients as necessary.

    Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.

    Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.

Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Experience

Preferred: At least 3 years of RN experience. Procedural experience in endoscopy or pulmonary.

Licensure / Certification

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

Preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
