At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) PRN Cath Lab position is a licensed staff nurse, an experienced clinician, functioning at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner’s model of clinical practice. The role provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintains medical records. It delivers direct patient care effectively and efficiently to patients with varied and complex needs, collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional health care team to coordinate compassionate, quality care, and monitors patient rights, administers medications, performs procedures, and manages emergencies.

QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.
Experience: Two years registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.

Certifications:
- RN
- Registered Nurse
- Texas State Licensure
- Texas Board of Nursing; PSV Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) - BLS
- Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association - ACLS
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association within 4 months - Preferred:
Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations as defined in orientation and annual departmental competency checklists.
- Exhibits sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a customer service focused manner.
- Shows strong assessment, organizational and problem solving skills, prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Functions independently and exercises judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families.
- Uses critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrates proficient time management skills.
- Maintains level of professional contributions as defined in the Clinical Career Path program guide.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook.
- People: Uses therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families and the interprofessional team, collaborates on care planning, contributes to teamwork, mentors staff and students, and participates in unit-based scorecard improvement.
- Service: Follows patient and family‑centered care standards, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, maintains medical records, communicates care plans, provides patient teaching, and supports patient satisfaction improvements.
- Quality/ Safety: Adheres to standards of care and regulatory requirements, identifies practice improvements, documents accurately, coordinates care for complex patients, and improves unit safety scores.
- Finance: Manages time effectively, documents care promptly, minimizes overtime, assesses resource utilization and supports department financial targets.
- Growth/Innovation: Identifies and proposes evidence‑based innovations, champions new care pathways, supports shared governance initiatives, and researches change options.
