- Conduct research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances for product and process development, application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies.
- Design new equipment and develop formulas, processes, and methods to solve technical problems.
- Develop new product concepts, including proprietary blends using both products and co‑producer products.
- Compile application information specific to the product line and interface with internal and external customers to solve specific product needs.
- Lead product and process developments of chemical and petrochemical compounds for markets such as Home & Personal Care, Coating, Oil & Gas, Agrochemical, and Performance Products.
- Apply Life Cycle Assessment concepts from cradle‑to‑grave throughout the whole process with all its interfaces.
- Lead analytical projects and support analytical method development for new methods and the improvement of existing methods while supporting implementation to the Quality Control Labs.
- Set up and execute laboratories to meet both internal and external customer expectations.
- Develop methods to analyze samples or the applications needed to prove claims.
- Maintain awareness of the literature and other sources of information to remain current with developments in functional products of interest to the Corporation.
- Work with the sales force to evaluate, select, and apply standard chemistry techniques and procedures to solve customer or company objectives under the direction of the R&D management.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard chemistry techniques and procedures to solve customer or company objectives based on direct customer interactions.
- Create new techniques or incorporate new methods to achieve objectives.
- Able to present results to internal and external customers and present work at public forums such as conferences.
- Work mainly on a regional level and be considered a regional expert.
- Manage small teams on major regional projects.
- Prepare internal and customer documents, reports, and presentations.
- Work projects in PMOx (project management system).
- Keep neat and orderly notebooks containing a record of all work performed.
- Maintain other records as necessary to support patent applications for innovative products.
- Maintain an orderly laboratory space and follow all safety and training requirements.
- Present work to internal and external clients.
- Have full knowledge of Indorama internal systems, including PMOX.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively, meet deadlines, and stay with budget targets.
- Manage and optimize all processes under your supervision, taking into consideration Quality, Legality, and Food Safety (if applicable) and client needs on Indorama’s products and services.
- Guarantee all documentation under your responsibility is updated and available for consulting.
- Have authority to stop the process within your scope of work if any problems are detected that affect regulation, quality, food safety, or the requirements of Indorama’s customers or products and services.
- Interact with the R&D team to improve the lab, lab methods, etc.
- Able to manage a small team to solve these problems.
- B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biochemistry, or Polymer Chemistry/Engineering, strongly preferred with 10 years’ experience, or M.S. in a related field with 6 years’ experience, or Ph.D. with 4 years of industrial experience.
- 1‑5 years’ experience (more than 5 years’ experience preferred) in R&D laboratory; preferred experience in surfactants knowledge in laboratory or application uses; preferred knowledge of Parr Reactors for scientists in process area or market applications; specific knowledge required in agriculture, oil & gas, paint & coatings, or home & personal care for scientists in market segment areas.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Computer literacy with databases, word processing, spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated presentation skills.
- English proficiency; bilingual Portuguese or Spanish strongly preferred.
