Salary range: $45,000.00–$64,200.00. This range includes State Supplemental Pay for employees who are P.O.S.T. Level I certified. Additional pay differentials are available for college education, military service, and prior law enforcement experience. This position includes a take home unit.
JOB SUMMARYA “Process Server” serves court orders, such as summons and subpoenas, for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Receive papers to be served from magistrate, court clerk, Process Server Clerk, or attorney.
- Locate person to be served by using telephone directories, state, parish, and municipal records, or other available sources; deliver document(s).
- Record time and place of delivery.
- Deliver general messages and documents between courts and attorneys.
- Assist in researching records and files to locate documents, as requested by the court, general public, administrative departments, and outside agencies; forward results of research to supervisor for distribution.
- Perform filing and updating of indexing system for records management and retrieval.
- Assist in the administration of the office activities by tabulating and posting data and typing reports.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and route to appropriate person.
- Perform support duties of related clerical positions which primarily include answering all incoming telephone calls, greeting visitors and notifying persons being visited, and responding to routine public inquiries concerning operations and procedures of government-related functions within scope of knowledge or refer to appropriate employee for response.
- Retrieve Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) mail and deliver to designated offices.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Jobholders must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be legally able to work in the United States.
Education and Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, supervisors, the general public, and other employees of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- P.O.S.T. Certification Preferred.
- Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
Skills and Abilities
- Must have basic knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures in general office administration, including operation of personal computers, typewriters, calculators, copy machines, and fax machines.
- General knowledge of computer word processing software, business English, spelling, punctuation, and basic methods and techniques in record keeping and filing systems.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, governmental officials, and other employees of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive a vehicle; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear; the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
