Educational Diagnostician
Individual must hold a valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, meeting the requirements listed in the Louisiana Standards for State certification of school personnel, Bulletin 746, Part Ill, IV, V, VI, VII, IX and X.
Minimum requirements as stated in SDE Bulletin 746 (as revised)
Must possess or be eligible for certification in the area of educational diagnostician or assessment teacher
Qualifications should not be established for the individual but rather for the position.
Performance ResponsibilitiesI. Management
1. Functions as evaluation coordinator for designated referred students
II. Professional Development
1. Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings including those assigned
2. Keeps abreast of new developments in the area of educational diagnosis and keeps other appropriate school personnel informed of the same
3. Participates in planned professional growth activities
III. Communication and Community Relations
1. Explains and interprets the educational assessment program to parents, teachers, principals, and other members of the parish school system
2. Confers with parents, teachers, principals, the supervisor of special education and other parish professional staff whenever necessary on matters relative to assessment, behavioral interventions, exceptional children, learning, teaching strategies, recommended interventions, and other areas within the expertise of the educational diagnostician
3. Cooperates with personnel of community health and social service agencies
IV. Clinical Skills
1. Enables students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by providing a full-range of educational diagnostician services to students in need of such assistance
2. Assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and implementation of educational and behavioral interventions of referred pupils
V. Professional Efficiency
1. Assists in maintaining accurate case records on all clients regarding enrollment in the educational assessment program, initial screening and individual evaluation and other services provided by the educational diagnostician in accordance with the requirements of parish, state, and federal laws, regulations and/or policies
2. Provides a written report of any educational assessment services provided to students
VI. Policy Implementation
1. Evaluates as a member of the multidisciplinary team and in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Bulletin 1508 and the regulations implementing Act 754, those pupils suspected of being in need of special educational services
2. Maintains confidentiality of all student records in compliance with state and federal laws
3. Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent and/or his designee.
VII. Consultation
1. Interprets assessment findings to parents, teachers, principals, and other professional parish personnel and responsible practitioners outside the school
VIII. Staff Development
1. Provides or assists in the provision of inservice training of school personnel on such topics as pupil appraisal, educational assessment programs, exceptional children, learning styles, classroom management, intervention strategies/techniques, and other areas of expertise
