About the Role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Cardiology Float provides licensed professional nursing and clinical support across multiple Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) clinics and providers. This dynamic role supports cardiovascular physicians and medical staff by delivering direct patient care, performing triage, managing diagnostic procedures, and ensuring continuity of care. Responsibilities include patient intake, documentation, injections, EKGs, Coumadin management, and patient education, all while maintaining cardiology-specific protocols and safety standards.

You’ll Drive Our Mission Forward
  • Perform patient triage and intake, accurately documenting chief complaints, vitals, medications, allergies, and medical history.
  • Support physicians during patient visits and follow through on orders including tests, injections, Coumadin labs, and patient instructions.
  • Perform EKGs, blood draws (venipuncture and finger sticks), and assist with stress tests and cardiac monitoring devices such as holters and telemetry monitors.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures including Nuclear, PET, Stress Testing, Ultrasound, Echocardiography, pacemaker/defibrillator checks, and Coumadin clinics.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnostic tests, cardiac monitoring equipment, and prescribed care plans.
  • Maintain and update patient records accurately in paper and/or electronic medical record (EMR) systems; utilize CPOE for orders, lab scheduling, and form completion (e.g., Home Health, FMLA, handicap license).
  • Manage medical forms, insurance pre-certifications, supply ordering, and mandated OSHA safety checks.
  • Facilitate patient mobility and flow within clinics, including transport assistance and occasional transport to hospitals.
  • Perform front-office duties as needed, including scheduling, check-in/out, answering phones, verifying insurance, and maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments to ensure smooth patient flow and reduce wait times.
  • Provide cross-coverage and travel to other CIS clinics as needed to support team operations and patient care continuity.
What Makes You a Great Match
  • High school diploma and current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Louisiana OR current Medical Assistant certification (CCMA, RMA, CMA, or NCMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS is a plus.
  • Proven clinical skills in triage, patient intake, EKGs, injections, venipuncture, diagnostic support, and EMR systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to patient-centered care and privacy.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and willing to travel to various clinic locations as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask while maintaining compliance with clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated dedication to the CIS mission and a collaborative team approach.
