Position Overview

Schedule:

Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm or 9:30 am – 6:00 pm

The Associate Trade Compliance Classification Specialist supports the execution of Digi Key's Import/Export Classification Program. This includes reviewing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) and the Commerce Control List to accurately assign HTSUS values and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs). The Associate Trade Compliance Classification Specialist reviews and evaluates item classifications to ensure full compliance with all U.S. Trade Regulations and escalates transactions to the Sr.

Trade Compliance Classification Specialist and/or Trade Compliance Management Team in accordance with U.S. law and internal company directives.

This role is based in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and requires a minimum of two days per week in the office and availability for projects in the office as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Supports adherence to company‑wide import/export and global transportation policies, procedures, and controls by following established guidelines and highlighting potential issues to senior team members.
  • Supports import/export shipping activities.
  • Applies established guidelines to support the classification of goods under U.S. import/export regulations with guidance from senior team members.
  • Maintains a current, comprehensive knowledge of all applicable U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. International Trade Commission regulations, policies, and practices, including the HTSUS and Commerce Control List.
  • Ensures all product flow meets U.S. and international trade compliance classification requirements and that document controls are in place to support full trade compliance.
  • Completes assigned classification and documentation tasks with attention to detail and escalates questions or discrepancies to senior team members.
  • Participates in internal and external product training events to maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of Digi Key's product lines.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in international trade, business, supply chain, engineering or related field (or an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage large volumes of transactional data.
  • Basic understanding of import/export processes and classifications or global supply chain operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams.

Physical Requirements
  • Generally spends the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices such as keyboard, mouse, and screen.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $26.00 to $36.00 per hour. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment‑based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future; the employer does not offer immigration sponsorship for this opportunity.
