Job Overview
This position provides first‑level support that successfully guides students through academic and non‑academic challenges by instructing them on higher education systems and practices to increase student enrollment, engagement, retention, and completion from the point of prospect relations to graduation and job placement. The Student Success Advisor acts as the primary liaison to new and currently enrolled student populations, working in tandem with faculty advisors and the counseling office to build active relationships and offer comprehensive support throughout the semester.
Responsibilities- Act as a comprehensive advocate for students to ensure their success.
- Assist with academic advising, navigate admissions and financial aid processes, connect with college and community resources, and facilitate involvement in student clubs, activities, or athletics.
- Evaluate and improve first‑year student experiences by addressing equity gaps.
- Provide comprehensive student support, including assistance with basic needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization.
- Two years of related work experience.
- Proficiency with a variety of word processing, database, and web‑based applications sufficient to accurately collect data and create reports.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently decide regarding workload, problems, or situations.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student development.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) to communicate effectively with students and employees.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- Two‑year degree or baccalaureate degree in a related field (Human Resources, Public Administration, Social Work, or Education).
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience in developing academic plans.
- Evidence of commitment to the success of diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.
- Knowledge of public, private, and community social services and resource agencies for student referrals.
- Knowledge of data privacy practices and FERPA.
- Experience providing academic and/or employment case management.
- Knowledge of the functions of Academic Affairs and of Northland Community and Technical College.
