The John Deere Turf & Compact Technician will work on turf, compact tractors, compact construction equipment, and other equipment such as STIHL products. We are looking for an employee with excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to provide top‑notch service to a rapidly growing customer base.
You’ll Focus On- Diagnose and repair equipment such as lawn mowers, UTVs, skid steers, compact tractors, telehandlers, aerial lifts, mini hydraulic excavators, multi‑terrain loaders, etc.
- Document labor, parts, fluids, and repairs on work orders to ensure timely closure and billing.
- Diagnose, inspect, recondition, repair, assemble, and service equipment as assigned by the service manager/CSA.
- Utilize technical manuals, diagnostic tools, and software to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, including service advisors and parts personnel, to streamline operations and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Participate in formal trainings, meetings, and communication efforts such as open‑book meetings, huddles, and department meetings.
- Provide assistance to all technicians/service team as needed for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain technical and product knowledge of John Deere and other equipment sold within the dealership.
- Assist in the preparation and repair of used and new equipment for rent or sale.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines at all times to prevent accidents and ensure a secure working environment.
- Communicate effectively with customers, providing clear explanations of repair procedures and addressing concerns.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement by seeking feedback and implementing best practices.
- Stay updated on the latest small‑engine and compact‑tractor technology through training and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, and keep shop tools, machines, and equipment tidy.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and customer service.
- Conduct oneself professionally in the presence of customers and the community to present a professional image of True North Equipment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing machinery.
- Proven experience as a technician in the agricultural or equipment industry, with expertise in servicing small engines and compact tractors.
- 2‑year technical degree in diesel or small engines, or a high‑school diploma/GED and several years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
- 2+ years of relevant small‑engine/diesel equipment repair experience preferred.
- Familiarity with John Deere equipment and systems highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to assemble and perform maintenance functions on equipment.
- Ability to operate diagnostic vehicles and equipment.
- Strong computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to work TNE service department hours, including seasonal hours and Saturdays, and have reliable attendance.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required to operate company vehicles.
- Candidates must have valid work authorization and be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Understand and adhere to TNE customer data policies and procedures.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with peers, management, and support resources.
- Conduct oneself professionally in front of customers and the community to represent True North Equipment positively.
- Ensure the company’s reputation and image are consistent with TNE values.
- Normal hours:
Mon‑Fri 8 am‑5 pm off‑season;
Seasonal hours:
Mon‑Fri 7:30 am‑5:30 pm and every other Saturday 7:30 am‑12 pm, with flexibility required during peak season.
- $19‑$25+ per hour depending on experience.
