Position Overview
The Automation Maintenance Technician role is responsible for supporting the understanding, maintenance, and documentation of automation equipment within a technical environment.
The individual gathers and records detailed information about devices, reviews technical documentation (such as blueprints, schematics, and manuals), and uses that information to support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts.
The position requires hands‑on technical skills, including mechanical aptitude and experience with electronic assemblies, along with strong problem‑solving abilities.
The individual works both independently and collaboratively across cross‑functional teams, contributing to broader projects as needed while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
Overall, this role combines technical analysis, practical maintenance skills, and teamwork to help ensure equipment operates efficiently and effectively.
This is an essential onsite role and will require regular onsite attendance.
Schedule:
Sunday – Thursday, 3:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Automation equipment production support:
- Monitor software dashboards for indications of production issues
- Communicate production issues to other teams within Digi‑Key
- Take corrective software or mechanical actions to resolve issues
- Collect data about the issue
- Enter data about issues into spreadsheets/software
Maintenance and assembly:
- Assemble automation devices consisting of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components
- Test and qualify automation devices
- Install/update firmware
- Assemble and install wiring harnesses
- Assemble/repair circuit boards
- Replace worn components on automation devices
- Assemble storage components used for automation projects
- Troubleshoot problematic automation devices
- Collect and document detailed information about devices
- Assist with other Digi‑Key team projects as needed
- Two‑Year Degree in Engineering, Mechanics, Technology or similar area of study, or equivalent 4 years of work experience in a closely related technical field
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment or individually with minimal supervision
- Work well in cross‑functional teams
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
- Ability to understand written and verbal communications
- Able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining a positive attitude
- Self‑motivated
- Good attendance
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of electronic assemblies, construction and testing techniques
- Mechanical experience
- Hands‑on troubleshooting skills
- Ability to drive a forklift
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Requires availability for some weekend work
- Capable of spending 8–10 hours walking/standing on concrete
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. from floor to shoulder height
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. alone
- Ability to drive a forklift

The starting base pay rate for this position is: $24.25.
