POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

THE ROLE

This position is responsible for safely operating the Vactor and other heavy equipment in accordance with safety guidelines, performing daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment at the Thomaston Maintenance Garage.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Candidates must indicate that they hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "tank endorsement" in the "Licenses and Professional Certifications" section of the application, or they will not be considered. Applicants invited to interview will be required to produce a copy of their current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, reflecting the "tank endorsement," and a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at the time of interview, or they will be immediately disqualified.
  • Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept emergency overtime duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm, which at times could be up to a period of several days, to include holidays and weekends.
  • Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 20-mile residency from the posted job location.
  • Candidates will be required to bring a copy of their completed Employment of Relatives Form and Acknowledgement of Ethics Receipt at the time of interview.
  • The Agency will conduct a practicum for the Transportation Maintainer 3 (Vactor Operator Assistant) position, to evaluate and determine whether or not applicant(s) have the skills and qualifications to perform the duties of this position. Practicums shall be conducted pursuant to the Department of Transportation Administrative Guidelines for Conducting Practicums and will be part of the interview process.
  • Eligible candidates will be required to be interviewed prior to being eligible for the skill evaluation practicum.
  • Candidates must show how they meet the required knowledge and experience on their application to proceed further in the hiring process.
