The Harvest Manager supports Weyerhaeuser’s Southern Timberlands harvesting operations in Thomasville, AL by planning, coordinating, and overseeing safe, compliant, and efficient harvesting and transportation activities. This role partners closely with Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning, contractors, and geographic leaders to help meet volume, market, quality, safety, environmental, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer harvesting and transportation contracts and support contractor onboarding, accountability, and performance management.
  • Verify harvest plans in the field, monitor harvest operations, and ensure timely system updates, source closeouts, and handoffs to the next function.
  • Promote safe work practices and contractor safety expectations, including safety plan execution, field observations, incident response participation, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support environmental compliance, SFI/EMS expectations, BMP implementation, field reviews, and environmental incident response.
  • Use operational, cost, volume, quality, market, and supplier data to support harvesting decisions and meet planned commitments.
  • Coordinate with Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning, and contractors to manage production, product mix, transportation constraints, road maintenance, and changing market needs.

A successful Harvest Manager builds credibility through safe field execution, disciplined contractor administration, reliable communication, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through. In the first 12–24 months, success includes demonstrating practical understanding of harvesting operations, using data and field observations to solve problems, supporting contractor and environmental accountability, and collaborating across functions to keep volume moving while protecting value.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant harvesting, forestry, operations, contractor, transportation, environmental, or related field experience.
  • Commitment to and ability to exemplify and promote a safe work environment.
  • Fundamental negotiation skills and ability to interact effectively with contractors and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to understand and apply conversion factors, quality specifications, product utilization concepts, and supplier performance data.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, labor, and transportation laws and regulations pertaining to harvesting operations.
  • Adequate oral and written communication abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a self-directed field environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use operational systems and applications.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a vehicle and navigate active harvesting sites, including uneven terrain and proximity to heavy equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree coupled with 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform harvesting responsibilities with increasing independence, including advanced application of job knowledge and minimal supervision.
  • Experience using operational reporting tools, contractor performance data, cost/volume analysis, and field observations to support business decisions.
  • Experience coordinating across harvesting, wood flow, planning, marketing, silviculture, transportation, and contractor partners.
  • Technical degree or additional relevant education and experience that strengthens readiness for harvesting operations.
