Role Overview
The Controls Engineer will assist the Engineering Manager with upgrades to electrical & control systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting to keep plant equipment online and continually improve plant equipment. They will be an integral part of the implementation and advancement of the Bakery of the Future.

Position Responsibilities- Eliminate outdated PLC, HMI, drives, servos, and other electrical components in plant equipment.
- Work with the plant engineer to identify which pieces of equipment need to be updated and determine the order of upgrades.
- Order hardware, install, and program necessary updates to supported hardware.
- Lead technicians in installing conduit, hardware, and rewiring as needed.
- Assist maintenance team with electrical/programming troubleshooting; respond to off‑hour breakdowns as necessary.
- Train supervisors and hourly technicians on PLC logic and electrical troubleshooting.
- Train maintenance technicians on inspecting, repairing, and cleaning assigned equipment’s electrical panels.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Bakery of the Future (BOF) systems, IoT/smart sensors and other equipment; continue to work with BOF teams, IT department, and continuous improvement teams.
- Other responsibilities may include:
- Control system design
- PLC programming
- Electrical design
- Design/programming of HMI
- Troubleshooting of electrical, PLC, and HMI systems
- Interfacing with real‑time database applications to manage critical production information
- Supporting project proposals and estimation
- Preparing functional specifications
- Assisting with equipment selection and procurement
- Site commissioning and installation
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Project Manager
- On‑call service/support for existing installations
- Proficient in programming using RS500, RS5000, Factory Talk, Connected Components Workbench to access, program, troubleshoot Allen‑Breacher PLC, HMI, VFDs, and servos.
- Understanding of control system architecture (network, server, PLCs, workstations).
- Good knowledge of instrumentation and control, configurations, fault finding, and installation standards.
- Technical knowledge of fieldbus technology and data communication systems.
- Ability to install, configure, and set up field instrumentation, field networks, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA.
- Experience with PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell, or Opto
22), Inductive Automation Ignition, and Canary Labs Historian. - In‑depth knowledge of control and automation standards with ability to interpret and implement best practices.
- In‑depth knowledge of developing and maintaining batching systems.
Job Requirements
- Associate’s degree required.
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering required.
