Position: OPERATING ROOM ASSISTANT

Operating Room Assistant – Surgery Description

  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, co‑workers, and self.
  • Ensures the correct patient is brought to the procedure area by checking the arm band, and ensures patient safety by using side rails and leg straps when appropriate.
  • Assists with the transport and positioning of patients under the supervision of the RN and physician for patients of all ages (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Performs proper cleaning of operating rooms and equipment between each case, and terminal cleaning of the department at the end of each day according to established policy.
  • Performs daily and weekly housekeeping duties of the department as assigned.
  • Ensures proper room set‑up after cleaning.
  • Constantly monitors assigned rooms, remaining in the assigned area, and takes breaks outside the department only when relieved or permission is granted.
  • Regularly cooperates and offers assistance to other staff in order to complete all work assignments.
  • Ensures proper maintenance, care, and cleanliness of equipment and supplies.
  • Responds immediately when called upon in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills.
  • Completes assignments within the appropriate time frame.
  • Works hours as assigned and is willing to work extended hours on any shift as needed.
Experience / Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
Previous Medical Experience Preferred
  • Requires heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Capable of interpreting and following instructions.
  • Must demonstrate good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain a positive relationship with physicians and staff.
