Purchasing Manager – Old Dominion Freight Line
The Purchasing Manager directs ODFL’s procurement operations, overseeing SAP S/4
HANA and Ariba, to ensure compliant, efficient procurement and risk oversight.
- Manage day‑to‑day purchasing to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Lead strategic supplier relationships and contract negotiations for physical goods.
- Oversee the entire supplier process including onboarding, risk vetting, performance reporting, and offboarding while coaching internal teams on best practices.
- Act as the primary business lead for SAP S/4
HANA, Ariba, and Supplier Lifecycle Management to ensure systems align with procurement policies and SOX audit requirements. - Help lead software upgrades by defining requirements, partnering with IT, and managing the final rollout and team adoption.
- Create and update purchasing and supplier management policies to improve clarity and strengthen internal controls.
- Manage vendor documentation and approvals across internal departments, including Legal, IT Security, Risk, and Finance.
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, supply chain, business administration or related field (or equivalent experience) required.
- 10 years of experience in vendor/supplier management, procurement, risk management, compliance, or related functions.
- Thorough understanding of SAP S4/HANA and Ariba purchasing systems.
- Hands‑on experience managing supplier onboarding, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring programs.
- Experience with in transportation, logistics, or similarly complex operational environments preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
Shift and hours to be determined. Working days and shift are estimates and subject to change based on job scheduling and business levels.
